Program requirements
Most utility smart thermostat programs require a qualifying smart thermostat that is installed and connected to your home WiFi. Depending on which season your utility program falls under, your smart thermostat must be connected to your HVAC system (summer) or your heating source (winter).
Depending on your utility provider’s program, before an event occurs notifications will appear on the thermostat or in your thermostat app. At the start of an event, your thermostat will automatically adjust the temperature setting a few degrees. Once the event is over, your thermostat will return to its original setting. Events may occur a few times during a season and only last for a few hours and you can opt out of events at any time.
